Lira's Mistake

“So much for exploring; I didn’t get very far,” sighed Lira as she was walking along the street during the night. She suddenly “sensed” Ephilon nearby and decided to find him. When she found him she noticed him with another female. Lira recognized the woman, it was Miu. Miu was the one who she once overheard talking about Ephilion. She thought this would be good to introduce himself.
Ephi and Miu were talking with each other when Lira jumped on Ephi’s shoulder. “Hi there,” Lira said. “Lira!?” Ephi said shocked to see her there. “Oh my, who are you?” Miu asked when she saw Lira. “I’m Lira I’m a “friend” of Ephi’s,” Lira grinned. “Lira don’t!” Ephi quickly responded worried about what she was going to say. Lira continued, “I’m also his “prey” you could say,” “LIRA!” Ephi yelled. He couldn’t believe she said that.
“WHAT!? E-ephi you’re…you’re trying to EAT her!?” Miu said trembling and backing away from him. “N-no NO! It’s not like that I swear it’s…it’s,” Ephi couldn’t get the words out. Lira could feel Ephi trembling and realized her mistake. She quickly jumped on Miu shoulder to fix this her mistake. “Wait I think you misunderstand me Miu I’m not really Ephi’s “prey” in the real sense of the word. We’re playing a game of cat and mouse. He’s the cat, the “predator” and I’m the mouse, the “prey”. It’s amusing and fun for both of us and trust me, no one gets eaten,” Lira explained to Miu.
The tense atmosphere calmed down with Lira’s explanation. “Lira, how did you know my name? I don’t think I told you,” Miu asked Lira, who was still on her shoulder. Lira jumped back to Ephi’s shoulder and lied saying, “Ephi told me about you and I have to say it’s nice to meet you.” “I see, well it was nice to meet you Lira. I’m sorry Ephi that I overreacted without hearing the explanation,” Miu said. “S-sure,” responded Ephi looking down. Thunder began to sound and Miu waved goodbye to Ephi and Lira knowing it was time to.
When Miu was out of sight Lira jumped from Ephi’s shoulder and landed next to his foot. She felt bad about what happened and looked up at the silent Ephi and said, “I’m really sorry about that Ephi; I didn’t think she would react like. “Leave now,” Ephi said angrily. “What?” Lira was surprised. “GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME NOW!” Ephi yelled. “I’VE BEEN TRYING TO GET ALONG WITH MIU AGAIN AFTER SHE FORGOT ABOUT ME AND YOU ALMOST RUINED IT! YOU RAT!” and Ephi tried to step on her. Lira barely got out of the way because she was so shocked at Ephi’s reaction. Ephi glared at her and said, “Don’t you dare come near me again. This game of ours is over.” With that said the rain started pouring down and Ephi left.
Lira felt heartbroken about what just happened. “I’m a fool…” Lira cried as the rain continued to pour. She sat down right there and folded her arms on her knees and continued to cry. She felt dead inside and no longer felt like moving.
Back at the apartment he was temporarily staying in, Ephi angrily stomped to his room and sat on the bed. “That idiot! She nearly ruined everything!” he muttered to himself. He suddenly felt a prick in his pocket and took out the pin Lira had given him. He was about to throw it away when he realized something. After her first “death” he was the only friend Lira had left. “Damn it,” Ephi said as he left the apartment.
Ephi wasn’t expected her to be there, but he went back to the spot where he yelled at Lira. He was shocked when he got there and realized he was wrong. Lira was still there, lying unconscious, and gasping for air. Ephi quickly ran up to her and picked her up. “Lira? Damn it!” Ephi said. Her body was cold and limp; she had pneumonia.
Back at the apartment, Ephi quickly place Lira on the bed and left to get a towel. Lira had regain consciousness when Ephi left. She could blurrily see Ephi in the distance and tried to stand up and get away. She dizzy and wobbly from her sickness, and walking on a bed didn’t make it any easier. When Ephi returned and saw Lira trying to leave, her gently picked her up and wrapped her in the small towel saying, “Where are you going? You’re in no condition to move.” “You don’t…want me here. So…why are you…helping me?” Lira started gasping.
Ephi paused a little and gently dried Lira off saying, “I’m sorry Lira, I overreacted. You didn’t know about what was going on between Miu and I and I never told you anything. If you knew more about my past…this most likely wouldn’t have happened. Not that I really know about your past either. Maybe we should start with that, well after you get better that is.” “So…you’re not mad?” Lira asked. “No,” he replied. “Good…I’m so…glad,” and Lira quickly fell asleep.
The next morning Ephi woke up and saw Lira staring out the window. He walked up to her, crossed his arms, leaned them on the window sill and asked, “How are you feeling?” “Better, but I’m still woozy. I guess this would be a good time to talk about our pasts huh? However, whatever either of us will say won’t leave this room, alright?” she responded. Ephi laughed and agreed.
Lira stayed with Ephi for two additional days to completely recover. During that time they talked about their past but still kept some secrets to themselves. After Lira recovered, she left Ephi to once again go exploring before she would return to continue their “game”.
