Description

After three days of rest, Clara finally woke up to see Alex sitting next to the bed looking at her. She looked at Alex and the first thing she said was, “Master…are you alright?” Alex was shocked by her words and grabbed her hand saying, “I should be asking you that! You’re the one who’s hurt!” he was nervous. Clara sat up and with her other hand she grabbed his hand that was grabbing hers and said, “But Master…you look so sad.” Alex knelt next to the bed and rested his forehead on the hands, slightly crying, “I’m sorry Clara.”
Beth saw this scene from afar and closed the door to the room they were in. She knew that they needed privacy. “Master, I know you didn’t mean what you did. I…I’m not afraid of you and I forgive you. When you finally regained yourself, you looked so devastated. Please don’t feel so guilty. If you let your guilt consume you, you’ll end up like your parents,” Clara said trying to console him. Alex lifted his head and let go of her hands, “Clara…thank you.”
Clara looked around the room, “Master, where are we? This isn’t your home…” Alex sighed, then stroked her head saying, “Things got worse after you got hurt…” and he explained what had happened. Clara covered her mouth, “No… Does that mean Robert and Martha are the only other survivors?” Before Alex could answer her, Beth forcefully opened the door yelling, “Alex! You and your friends must get out of here! Demon slayers are heading this way!” Alex nodded and picked up Clara and she wrapped her arms around his neck.
As Alex, Martha, and Robert got out of the house, the man approached them, “Beth told me what the deal with you three was. Three demons and a human child…how interesting. Please, can you take my daughter with you?” he asked. “Papa, what do you mean?” Beth asked nervously. The man looked to Alex, “If those demon slayers find Beth, they’ll kill her! Please…I don’t want her to die,” the man had a pleading look in his eyes.
Alex nodded and looked to Martha and Robbie. They nodded and both changed into their demon form and Robbie grabbed Beth. Beth started struggling in Robbie’s grip, “No wait, stop! Papa!” and Robbie flew into the air. Alex looked to the man, “When the demon slayers leave, we will bring Beth back,” but the man shook his head, “No, surely the other villagers will mention my daughter to them; she’ll never be safe here.” “Then let me take you with us!” Martha said with an extended hand, but the man once again shook his head.
“My daughter needs to learn how to live without me. Besides I’ve not much time left anyways. Please…take care of my daughter,” and the man smiled. Alex nodded, “Shadow…wings!” and he took flight. Martha looked to the man, “I promise we will keep your daughter safe,” and she followed behind Alex. When they all disappeared the demons slayers meet up with the man and one of them said, “The villagers say you have a daughter with blond hair. Surely you know that she’s a half demon?” The man looked at them, “My daughter has left me. I do not know where she is.”
The demon slayer got angry, “That is a lie! Villagers saw her this morning!” but the man just repeated his words. “Spread out! They couldn’t have gotten too far!” said the slayer and the man returned to his home, praying for Beth’s safety. Beth continued to struggle in Robbie’s arms yelling, “Let me go Robert! My father needs me! LET ME GO!” she whined. Alex flew next to Robert, “Beth, you father knew that those demon slayers were going to kill you if they found you! You need to calm down.”
Beth stopped struggling slightly, “B-But…” Martha flew closer, “Alex’s is right Beth. Your father asked us to take you with us because he knew you would be safe with us.” Beth stopped struggling and looked down. Clara looked to Beth, “Don’t worry…” Beth lifted her head and looked at the child, “Everyone here is really nice,” and Clara smiled. Beth smiled back at her and then wrapped her arms around Robbie’s neck.
“My father has always told me about a village of half demons somewhere in the mountains. Can you take me there?” Beth asked. “Do you know which mountain is it Beth?” Martha asked. “Yes…my father told me it was in the Misty Mountain and that only half demons could see it,” Beth replied. “Alright. Robert, hand Beth to me, I’ll take her there,” Martha said. They all stopped and flew in midair. Martha carefully took Beth from Robbie and carried her. “If you take off, then where would we meet up?” Robbie asked.
“How about we meet in the Death Woods? No one will pursue you there,” Martha replied. “Death Woods is no place to take Clara!” Alex sneered. Martha lowered her head down in shame when she forgot about Clara. “It’s okay Master, let’s go there. I know you will keep me safe,” Clara said, lifting up everyone’s spirits. Alex sighed, “Very well Clara, if you’re certain,” he looked to Martha, “Then we will meet up in the Death Woods,” and he flew off with Robbie following behind him.
Martha headed towards the Misty Mountain and Beth asked, “That child is very precious to Alex, isn’t she?” Martha laughed, “More than you can begin to imagine. I think little Clara is precious to all of us, not just Alex. When she first arrived at Alex’s home, she was very timid and scared. Now she’s got unimaginable loyalty and trust towards Alex, and an unbelievable spirit that can help anyone. I’m sure she’ll be able to save Alex.” Beth looked at Martha questionably, “What do you mean Martha?” but Martha shook her head and laughed, “Oh nothing dear, nothing at all…”
