“I felt like a puppet,” Robbie explained, “I was fully conscious, and fully aware of what I was doing. However, I had no free will. The more I tried to resist the more strain I was putting on my body. In a way, Alex was my will, and I couldn’t do anything unless I was told to. I couldn’t even speak…” Robbie sighed. After his explanation, Robbie rubbed his arms and shivered, “I never want to experience something like that ever again,” he said. “Hey you asked for it!” Alex pleadingly said in his defense. Robbie looked to Alex and saw his pained face.
He swung his arm over Alex’s shoulders and said, “I wasn’t trying to make you feel guilty. So c’mon, get rid of that look. You’re making ME feel bad. Besides, you did nothing wrong. It’s as you said, I asked for it,” Robbie was trying to reassure him. Alex sighed and rolled his eyes, but he quickly look to Clara to see her expression. He couldn’t…read it. “Clara?” he reached out towards her. She saw his hand and grabbed it with both hands, surprising him. She looked up at him, “It’s alright Master, I’m not scared,” and she gave him a sincere and cheerful smile.
With his other hand he cupped her cheek and smiled, “Thank you…” and he pulled her to him and hugged her gently. She smiled, and then wrapped her arms around him. She knew that he wasn’t a bad demon; he was just struggling with his abilities because he feared them. She let go of him and she started to yawn. Robbie grinned, “I’m not surprised to see you yawning Clara. This forest can drain the energy out of you.” She looked at him both surprised and worried, “R-Really?” but then Alex leaned his forehead onto hers, “It alright,” a red aura became to surround him and she became enveloped in it, “Rest now, I won’t let you be harmed,” he reassured her.
As the red aura enveloped her, she began to feel sleepy. Before she knew it, she had fallen asleep in Alex’s arms. Alex was sitting down and he was gently stroking Clara’s head. Robbie sat next to him, “Though it way too late to say this, you shouldn’t get too attached to her,” he stated. Alex’s chuckled, “You’re right, it was too late. I’m quite attached,” and he kissed her forehead. Robbie rolled his eyes, “She…can’t live as long as we can, and you know how slow time passes for us. You should…” “I do not want to hear it!” Alex said bluntly, “Time may pass differently between demons and humans, but there is nothing wrong with a demon wanting to say close to a human!” he gave Robbie a fierce glare.
Robbie sighed, “I’m sorry, I did not mean to sound harsh. I have also grown fond of little Clara there,” he looked at Clara in Alex’s arms, and then looked to Alex, “While we wait for Martha, we should perhaps train her?” Alex looked at Robbie confused, “Train her?” Robbie nodded, “You know, basic survival skills. Also maybe we could train her to defend herself. I don’t think it’s wise for her to remain so helpless. I also don’t mean we train her in anything vigorous. She’s only a child, but that is the best time to start,” he explained.
“Why do you suggest something like this? I understand your logic, but I don’t understand your reason,” Alex replied. Robbie rolled his eyes, “You want to stay with her do you not? Then make it so she’s able to! You can’t always be watching her; she can’t always be a helpless little child. The Death Woods is a safe place to train her, safe from any distractions. Train her enough so she doesn’t always have to rely on you! I’m sure she doesn’t want to always feel helpless!” Robbie explained. Alex looked back down at Clara, “Very well, we try something,” he responded.
Clara was dreaming. In her dream, there was an inferno and she saw Martha within it. Martha was badly hurt and bleeding. Beth was in the inferno as well as she was unconscious. She saw many vicious red eyes. Clara’s eyes shot open and she sat up, “Master!” her head slammed against Alex’s chin. She ignored her pain and looked up at him, “Master, Martha and Beth are in trouble! We need to save them!” she cried. Alex rubbed his chin, “What do you mean Clara?” he asked. She started crying, “I don’t know how, but I know that they’re in trouble! Please…help them!” she pleaded.
Alex stood up with Clara in his arms and Robbie stood up as well. Robbie transformed, “Shadow…wings!” and Alex’s shadowy wings appeared. After they looked at each other and nodded, they took flight and headed to the Misty Mountain. As they were airborne, “Alex, how are we to find the village? Only half demons can find it!” Robbie asked. “That must have been to a barrier, but if Clara’s assumption is right, we should be able to find it now,” Alex responded.
“Clara if we are to make it to the mountain in time we need to pick up the speed. Hold on tightly,” Alex directed and she grabbed him tighter. Alex and Robbie picked up speed and they rushed to the half demon village. As the approached the mountain they saw smoke rising from a specific area. “Over there!” Alex stated, and they dove down towards the smoke. They landed in the burning villages and saw the corpses of many half demons. The also saw other half demons running or trying to fight a band of demons. They quickly spotted Martha and Beth.
“Martha!” Robbie called and he dashed in to help her. Alex followed him and set Clara down next to the unconscious Beth. Martha looked at both of them, “Forget about me, help the others!” she exclaimed. Alex and Robbie split up and dispatched the demons, but there was a vast amount of them. “Look at those two stupid demons! They’re trying to save the half breeds!” one of the demons sneered angrily and then he noticed Clara. “A human?” he smiled maliciously, “And a child at that,” and he charged right at her.
“NO CLARA!” Martha cried as she tried to get to Clara but another demon stopped her and attacked. Clara watched horrified and petrified as the demon charged at her with sharp claws. She closed her eyes and waited for the impact, “Clara!” and it was swift. Clara opened her eyes to see Alex in front of her with his arms wrapped around her. The demon had slashed his back. “M-Master,” she stuttered, “Shadow…kill!” Alex said and his shadow shredded the demon to pieces. Clara looked at Alex’s face and she began to worry for him when his eyes shined bright red with blood lust.
